Jamie Fink began designing unknowingly at the age of twelve with her mum, an interior designer, as she would tag along with her to various showrooms and design meetings. Eventually, the raw talent that she was born with began to show itself as her exposure to different styles and techniques grew. Though her interiors have been described as eclectic, she is comfortable working in a variety of styles, guided by her individual client’s needs and tastes. Her design process is pragmatic (how should the space be laid out to flow and function to full capacity?) as well as creative/conceptual (what idea or feeling will ground and focus the design?).
At the beginning of each project, Jamie likes to spend time with the client and truly begin to know them as an individual. This begins to foster a relationship based on mutual understanding and forms a friendship, which in turn allows for the creation of a very personalized space. Jamie likes to begin with same questions: What’s the best design for the client? What’s the best design for the building or space? What will stand the test of time, stylistically and functionally, yet still feel current? For any project, her goal is to make sense of the space, create a base and build the room around it. Then, once the basic ‘structure’ is complete she likes to layer in fresh, personal and vintage elements – such as found objects, personal items and art – that fit the feel of the space.
Jamie is mama to five. After giving birth to two kiddos she and her husband felt called to adopt. They brought their breathtakingly beautiful daughter home from Ethiopia… fell in love with Africa, and three years later, brought home their two baby boys. Until recently all seven of them, plus their two dogs, called a 2400 square foot condo home which gave Jamie a very real understanding of the need to fully capitalize on every inch of space. They are currently renovating a 1960’s colonial on an acre of land that they have lovingly coined their ‘suburban chalet.’
Jamie has a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business from the American Intercontinental University in London, England and Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin along with a degree in Interior Design from The British Institute of Interior Design, London, England. Her work has been featured on Apartment Therapy along with countless other design sites and will be included in an upcoming book due for release in the fall of 2015.
